Terms of Use
Effective from 27 October 2026
In short
- With Appvent you make an advent calendar from your own photos and messages, and send it as a gift with a code.
- A calendar is free for one recipient and the first 5 doors; more recipients and all 24 doors need a one-time paid plan. There is no subscription.
- Payments go through the App Store or Google Play. A plan is activated immediately, so you cannot withdraw afterwards.
- Only upload photos and text you have the right to use and that do not harm others.
- A shared calendar is deleted automatically from the server on 31 January of the following year.
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern the use of the Appvent mobile app (“app”) and its related service. By downloading and using the app you accept these Terms. Personal data is handled as described in the Privacy Policy.

The language of the contract is Hungarian; this English version is provided for information, and the Hungarian version prevails. The contract is not filed by us separately; the current text of the Terms is always available on this page, and the store sends you a receipt for every purchase.
2. The service
In the app you can create a 24-door advent calendar, adding a photo and a short message for each day. By uploading the finished calendar to our server you can share it: every recipient gets their own code, which you can also pass on as a link or QR code. The recipient opens the calendar with the code in the app and can open that day's door every day in December (according to their phone's date).
Further features include daily reminders, a home-screen widget, a QR card, saving photos and, with a paid plan, downloading photos in original quality.
The service is provided as it currently stands technically; features may change as the app evolves.
3. Conditions of use
- No sign-up is required. A calendar is identified by a secret edit key stored on the creator's phone: it can only be edited and managed on the phone it was made on. If you delete the app or change phones, you can no longer edit the calendar, but the recipients can still open it with their codes.
- Under the age of 16, creating calendars and making purchases requires the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
- You may only use the app as intended, in line with the law and these Terms. You must not deliberately disrupt the service, circumvent its limits (such as the one-phone limit), obtain other people's codes without authorisation, or load the server with automated tools.
4. Plans and prices
| Plan | Recipients | Doors that can be opened |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 1 | the first 5 days |
| Duo | up to 2 | all 24 |
| Family | up to 5 | all 24 |
| Big family | up to 10 | all 24 |
| Group | up to 30 | all 24 |
- A plan applies to one specific calendar and is a one-time payment; it is not a subscription, does not renew and cannot be transferred to another calendar.
- An existing plan can be upgraded to a bigger one by paying only the price difference.
- Original photos: for a calendar with a paid plan, the photos can also be downloaded in original quality for a separate one-time fee. The creator can buy it for all recipients, or a recipient can buy it for themselves.
- If a recipient has not opened the calendar yet, removing them frees their slot; once opened, the slot stays taken.
- The app shows current prices before purchase as provided by the store (in forints or your local currency, including tax). The price payable is the price valid at the time of purchase.
- From time to time we may issue promo codes, redeemable in the App Store or on Google Play; a redeemed code grants a plan or feature to the calendar you choose.
5. Payment
Purchases are made in the app through the payment system of the Apple App Store or Google Play, using the payment method set up in the store. The store's own terms also apply to payment, receipts or invoices and family sharing. We never see your card details.
After a purchase the app has our server verify the transaction with the store and applies the plan to your calendar. If this does not happen for some reason (e.g. the connection drops), the app retries later; if it still fails, please contact us.
On Apple devices, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies; where it differs from these Terms, these Terms prevail to the extent Apple's rules allow.
6. Withdrawal, refunds, warranty
Plans and original photos are digital content not supplied on a tangible medium and become available immediately after purchase. Under Hungarian Government Decree 45/2014 (II. 26.), section 29(1)(m) (implementing Article 16(m) of Directive 2011/83/EU), by starting the purchase you expressly consent to immediate performance and acknowledge that you thereby lose your 14-day right of withdrawal. The app reminds you of this before purchase.
You can still request a refund from the store under its own rules:
- App Store: reportaproblem.apple.com
- Google Play: Google Play refund page
If a purchased plan or feature does not work as described, you have the rights granted by the rules on the supply of digital content (the Hungarian Civil Code and Government Decree 373/2021 (VI. 30.), implementing Directive (EU) 2019/770): to have it brought into conformity and, if that is not possible, to a price reduction or termination of the contract. Please write to [email protected]; we will fix the problem or help you get a refund.
7. Codes and phones
- Every recipient gets their own code. A code opens on one phone at a time: the one it was first opened on.
- If the recipient changes phones or their phone breaks, the creator can move the code in the app: the old phone is then blocked and the code opens on the new one.
- Treat a code like a key: anyone who knows it can open the calendar (unless it is already open on another phone). Only send it to the person it is meant for.
8. Your content
The photos and text you put in a calendar are yours. By uploading them you declare that:
- you have the right to use the content (e.g. you took the photos, or the author agreed), and
- the people shown in the photos (or a child's parent) have agreed to their picture being included and delivered to the recipients.
You must not upload content that is illegal or infringes the rights of others, in particular:
- content depicting minors in a sexual or abusive way;
- content infringing another person's personality rights (e.g. their image or reputation) or copyright;
- hateful, violent, harassing, intimidating or threatening content;
- spam, malicious or deceptive content.
We acquire no rights to your content beyond a free, non-exclusive permission to store it, convert it (e.g. compress it) and deliver it to the recipients, as needed to provide the service, until the calendar is deleted.
We do not review content in advance. You can report illegal content to [email protected]: include the code or link and explain why you consider it illegal. We investigate reports without delay; if the content is illegal, we block or delete the content or the code and, where we know how to reach them, inform the person concerned with a statement of reasons. This address is also our point of contact for authorities and users under Articles 11–12 of the EU Digital Services Act (DSA).
9. Retention and deletion
- A shared calendar is deleted automatically and permanently from the server on 31 January of the year after the calendar's year. After that its codes stop working and its photos can no longer be downloaded.
- The creator can delete it from the server earlier (long-press the calendar, “Everywhere”). This is immediate and permanent.
- A copy already downloaded to a recipient's phone stays there until they delete it.
- Appvent is not a backup service: always keep your own copies of your photos.
10. Availability and liability
- We do our best to keep the service running, especially during Advent, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. It may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, faults or causes beyond our control (e.g. outages of the hosting provider, the internet or the app stores).
- Doors open according to the phone's date; reminders and the widget also depend on the phone's settings (e.g. battery saver).
- Whoever uploaded content is responsible for it.
- To the extent permitted by law we are not liable for indirect damage or lost profits. This limitation does not apply to damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, or to damage to life, physical integrity or health, and does not affect the rights consumers have under mandatory law.
11. Intellectual property
The app, its source code, design and graphics, and the “Appvent” name and logo are the intellectual property of the provider. Under these Terms you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the app. Reverse engineering, modifying or reselling the app is prohibited, except where expressly permitted by law.
12. Suspension and termination
- In case of a serious breach of these Terms (in particular illegal content or abuse), we may block or delete the calendar or code without prior notice.
- We may discontinue the service; we will announce this at least 30 days in advance in the app or on the website. Where possible, purchased plans will remain available until the end of that Advent season (31 January).
- You may stop using the app and delete your calendars at any time.
13. Changes to these terms
We may change these Terms, for example because of a new feature or a change in the law. We will announce changes in the app or on the website at least 15 days before they take effect. Changes will not adversely affect plans you have already purchased.
14. Complaints and disputes
You can send a complaint to [email protected] or by post to our address. We reply to written complaints in writing, on the merits, within 30 days. If we reject a complaint, we will tell you which authority or conciliation body you can turn to.
If you are a consumer and we cannot settle a dispute between us:
- you may turn to the conciliation body (békéltető testület) for your place of residence (bekeltetes.hu), or the one for our seat:
Hajdú-Bihar County Conciliation Body (Hajdú-Bihar Vármegyei Békéltető Testület), Petőfi tér 10., 4025 Debrecen, Hungary (office: Vörösmarty u. 13–15., 4025 Debrecen), phone: +36 52 500 710, e-mail: [email protected], hbmbekeltetes.hu; - you may file a consumer protection complaint with the consumer protection authority (the county government office for your place of residence in Hungary, or the competent authority in your country);
- you may go to court.
These Terms are governed by Hungarian law. If you are a consumer living in another EU member state, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer protection rules of your country of residence.
